Fulani herdsmen in fresh Nasarawa attack

No fewer than 10 persons have been killed and about 40 houses razed in a fresh attack on the Eggon community of Gidan Gambo in Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa State by gunmen suspected to be Fulani invaders.
The attackers, who were well armed with AK 47 rifles, defied an early morning rain to carry out a raid on the village, where they killed 10 persons and injured several others.
It was learnt that the attack on Gidan Gambo was the latest in the series of attacks on Eggon communities by suspected Fulani insurgents in recent weeks since hostilities broke out between the warring parties in the state.
A resident of Gidan Gambo, Likita Alaku, who escaped from the attack, said the heavily armed Fulani, numbering over 400, stormed the village at about 6am and shooting indiscriminately, killing anyone on sight and burning houses.
‘’We woke up with heavy rain and saw many Fulani people with AK 47 rifles surrounding the village and they started shooting in all directions and burning houses,’’ he stated.
Alaku, who expressed worries over the sophisticated weapons in possession of the invading Fulani, admonished both the federal and state government as well as security agencies to disarm the gunmen to prevent them from further attacking innocent people.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Police command, Umaru Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident said only one person was killed in the attack.
